Case study · Edinburgh

Gogarloch

A multi-functional garden transformation combining timber, stone, steel, and planting to create a layered & vibrant outdoor space full of texture.

Scope Design & Build
Area Edinburgh
Year 2024
Investment £20–50k
The project

A calm, unhurried garden built for slow mornings and long evenings, where cedar fencing and a floating cedar bench sit within crisp steel-edged retaining beds.

The brief here was refreshingly simple: a space to sit out in, sunbathe, read a book and unwind with a drink — a garden built purely around the pleasure of being outside.

The brief

Everything was designed around that one goal — genuine, unhurried outdoor living, with nothing to maintain and nothing to distract from it.

The build

Timber fencing wraps the space, paired with a cedar bench and steel retaining beds that keep the planting crisp and contained. The floating bench was the hardest part of the build — getting the cantilevered structure to sit level and remain solid took real precision in the joinery.

The result

Zen, stylish, colourful — a garden built for doing absolutely nothing, very well.
