A Caithness stone terrace with a swim spa, a bespoke treehouse and a sunken trampoline.
This garden began as an enormous mountain of soil, left behind by a major internal building project — there was a huge amount of groundworks before any garden could take shape. Designed and built in-house, this garden was shaped entirely around play: somewhere to run, climb, swim and spend time outdoors.
The house was being transformed by Rollo Developments and the garden needed to match it. The clients wanted a space that worked for entertaining and for their children at the same time.
A wide Caithness stone terrace runs through the garden, laid as crazy paving so the surface reads continuously rather than as a grid. Floating concrete step units handle the level changes.
We built a bespoke treehouse to the clients’ brief, with a slide running down from it into the garden. The trampoline is sunk flush into the lawn so it sits at ground level. A swim spa is set into the terrace.
There is a lot in this garden, and the work was in arranging it so the space still feels calm.
